Nepal suffered its second defeat in a row in the second round of the joint qualification for FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027.
Under Group H, Nepal lost 2-0 to Yemen at home on Tuesday. Nepal could not perform satisfactorily against Yemen in the home field among more than 13 thousand spectators. Omar Abdullah Al-Dahi and Mohammad Abdullah Al-Dahi, who entered the field as substitute players to give victory to Yemen in the match at Dasharath Rangshal in Tripureshwar, scored goals in the second half.
Omar gave Yemen the lead in the 72nd minute. He scored when Nepali left back Ashish Chaudhary was out of the field during treatment. Similarly, Mohammad Abdullah Al-Dahi scored at the end of the game to ensure Yemen’s victory.
This is Yemen’s first victory in the second round of qualifying. Yemen has 3 points from two matches. In the first match, Yemen was defeated by Bahrain 2-0. In the first match, Nepal was defeated by UAE 4-0.
After two matches, Nepal is without points in Group H.
