There has been tension between India and Maldives since the victory of pro-China Mohammad Muizzu. Amidst this tension, Muizzu had gone on a tour to China but as soon as he returned, he had to face a crushing defeat from the pro-India party MDP. MDP’s Adam Azim has given a big blow to Muizzoo. Pro-China Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzoo has got a big blow as soon as he returned from China. Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the pro-India opposition party of Maldives, has won a landslide victory in the mayor elections of the capital Male. MDP’s Adam Azeem has defeated Aishath Azeema Shakur of Muizzu’s People’s National Congress (PNC) by a huge margin.

MDP’s Adam Azim has been elected as the new mayor of MLA. Azim will replace Muizzu, who resigned from the post last year to contest the presidential elections. Maldivian media has described Adam’s victory as ‘big’ and said that Azim has won this victory by a huge margin. MDP is led by pro-India former President Mohammad Solih who lost to Muizzu in the last presidential election.
