KATHMANDU, March 23: Ujjwal Pradhanang won the Indian Ambassador’s Invitational Golf Tournament at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.
Ujjwal earned 41 nett points to win the trophy. Kabi Thapa finished runner-up in the tournament with 39 points.
National golf team member and Nepal No 1 amateur Sadbhav Acharya scored 35 gross points to win the best gross award.Sumitra Khadka was the ladies winner with 30 points and Tara Karki Chitrakar finished runner-up with 29 points. Tendi Sherpa was winner among senior golfers on count back after he was tied on 32 points with Mahendra Mainali.
Lt. Gen. Victory SJB Rana was awarded with senior most golfers award. Ang Norbu Sherpa scored 20 points on the front nine and bagged the best front nine award. Pavitra Kumar Karki got the best back nine prize with 19 points.
Swapnil Bhattarai got the most birdies award with three birdies. Gorkha Major Gyan Bahadur Dhenga got most pars award with 12 pars. Dipak Kumar Karki got the closest to the pin award and Lt. Col. Rajesh Gurung won the longest drive.
The tournament, participated by 88 golfers including eight lady golfers, was played on a stableford format with ¾ handicap. Ambassador of India to Nepal, Shri Naveen Srivastava, Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Prabhu Ram Sharma, Defence Attache of Indian Embassy Col Amit Sharma, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan, CEO of Nepal SBI Bank Dipak Kumar De, ISME Chairman Nagendra Pampati gave away the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
During the prize presentation ceremony, winner of the 122nd All India Amateur Championship adn Runner-up at the PGTI Qualifying School, Subash Tamang and national golf team member Rahul Bishwakarma were awarded with Rs. 50,000 worth of scholarships each by the Embassy of India.
In the putting competition organised for non-golfers, Corine J Honeycutt came first, Sarika Sharma was runner-up, and Kamala Oli finished third.
